Located just above St Anton, St Christoph is an easy transfer from Innsbruck airport. Sitting at just 102km away, you can be there in a little over an hour and will have access to some of the best terrain in the Austrian Alps.   St Christoph perches happily at 1800m, above St Anton, but to call it a resort in its own right is risky. More like a mid-station that’s seen some serious investment, St Christoph is a collection of hotels and apartments, as well as a few select bars and restaurants. The slopes are groomed right into the streets, and runs snake around it.   There’s little to do at St Christoph that isn’t skiing, but if you’re looking for a break that puts it right on your doorstep, there are few places as integrated into the mountain as St Christoph. You can go from slope to apres to sleeping in about ten steps, and there’s probably a few people that appeals to. Luckily, St Christoph only has the capacity to sleep a few. Still, it’s a lively little place when you catch it on a sunny afternoon, though don’t expect there to be enough to do to keep you entertained for a week. You’re better off looking elsewhere in the Arlberg region for anything more than a day or two away.   St Christoph highlights: Doorstep skiing and good elevation means that the transition from hotel or apartment to the slopes is seamless. The slopeside bar and restaurant here is great for apres too, and combined with a short transfer, this makes St Christoph an ideal weekend getaway.   St Christoph is best for: Those who want access to the Arlberg region but want to skip all the frills of a larger resort. Here, it’s no holds barred skiing, and very little else.

Ski and Snowboard Guide to St Christoph:

St Christoph is nestled very comfortably above St Anton at 1800m, meaning it’s the highest resort in the Arlberg region, and the snowiest, too. It’s set right on the slopes and has a big nursery area right on its doorstep, making it ideal for first-timers who want to focus on the skiing.   The top lift reaches 2811m above St Anton, accessible via the single chair moving up the slopes. It may not be as well connected as some of the other resorts, but with a long blue down to it at the day’s end, as well as an unmarked red, St Christoph is a great little resort for those with a hunger for skiing and nothing more.   Intermediates and advanced skiers will appreciate the reds, blues, and blacks easily accessed off the chair, and will no doubt enjoy taking the Valluga gondola all the way up to the peak, and then skiing down from there. St Anton’s lifts will take you back up to Galzig above the resort, making it an easy place to access as the afternoon wears on, even if you’ve ventured further afield.   St Christoph has 340km of accessible terrain split over a 258 mixed runs, served by 97 fast and efficient lifts, making it a great resort for skiers of all abilities.   First-time and beginner skiers: A large nursery area means that St Christoph is one of the best places to learn in the Arlberg region, and with mostly blues accessible off the chair, progressing is easy too.   Intermediate skiers: Intermediates will have lots of fun striking out, with St Christoph making a good base to explore the surrounding terrain.   Expert skiers: Experts will find a fair amount of challenging runs on offer above St Christoph, as well as a long unmarked red down to St Anton, which then connects easily back up to Kapall and opens up the rest of the mountain from there. Otherwise, heading up to Schindler Spitze, and then down the 85 red to Stuben to open up the rest of Arlberg is a good idea if the day is young.

What kind of ski lessons are available in St Christoph?

Children’s Group Ski Lessons St Christoph

From a three-year-old’s the first steps on snow in the children’s snow garden to teenagers confidently crushing black runs and getting in to the snowpark you’ll find ski lessons for children of all ages and ability in St Christoph (which can come in handy when you suddenly realise your kids have become better skiers than you!).  We’re probably (more than) a bit biased but at SkiBro we think that properly laying the foundation for a lifetime on the slopes - free of bad habits - is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give their children. SkiBro’s partner ski schools and instructors are all fully certified and have years of experience providing kids’ ski lessons that focus not only on technical instruction but also fun and safety.   Children’s ski lessons tend to book up very quickly during peak school holiday periods like half-term and christmas break, so make sure to book early during these times to avoid disappointment.

Adult Group Ski Lessons St Christoph

Did you know that nearly a third of all group ski lessons are beginner adult group lessons? It sounds surprising but group ski lessons are a great way to learn to ski; surrounded by other people of a similar age and ability level who are also trying something new. Group lessons are also great for progressing from a beginner skier to a more independent intermediate.  With quality coaching for a few hours each day you can spend your mornings working on your technique before grabbing a bite to eat and explore everything the mountain has to offer with your friends and family in the afternoons.

Private Ski Lessons St Christoph

Private instruction is just that – a ski instructor solely devoted to you (and any friends or family you choose to invite) for a given period of time.  These lessons are offered both by formal ski and snowboard schools as well as by freelance instructors – certified independent instructors working for themselves or in loose collectives.   A private ski instructor in St Christoph can offer you a level of flexibility and individual attention beyond what group lessons can.  For some people one short, intensive, session with a private instructor will teach them more than they’d get from a full week of group lessons.    For many people, however, the inverse would be true and the repetition and additional practice in group lessons is invaluable.

Off-Piste Guiding St Christoph

Considered by those who get into it as skiing in its purest (and most fun!) form, freeride (also known as off piste or backcountry) skiing is the pursuit of skiing all over the mountain, unrestricted by the edge of the piste in a variety of snow conditions.  A good day’s freeride skiing might involve long descents down wide open mountain faces, steep couloirs and adventures through the trees, far away from the crowded pistes. In addition to private ski instructors and mountain guides you can sometimes find camps and courses designed to give upper-intermediate skiers their first taste of off-piste delights in St Christoph. Be careful though, the white powder can be quite addictive.

Snowboard Lessons St Christoph

From ‘never-evers’ to semi-pros you’ll find a snowboard lesson in St Christoph designed to take you riding to the next level.  If you’re thinking small, think big. And if you’re thinking big- think bigger! If you’re new to a resort or even if you’re returning to an old favourite, a top snowboard instructor or group snowboard lessons will help you unlock local secrets of the area that you’ll wish you knew about years ago! Flatland tricks, jibbing, carving trenches, slaying powder – stop being a slave to your snowboard and learn to master it!
